Our History


The Beginning

The First Baptist Church of Astor began as a mission in 1948 by Stetson University ministry student Earl Joiner. The congregation purchased an old building for  in 1953, became a separate church on December 8, 1963, and built the current sanctuary on June 27, 1982. 

Key Historical Moments

1948: A mission is established in Astor by Earl Joiner.

1953: The growing congregation acquires its first official building for.

December 8, 1963: The mission is officially constituted as the independent First Baptist Church of Astor.

June 27, 1982: The present-day sanctuary is constructed to accommodate the growing congregation.

1994: The 1982 sanctuary is remodeled to become the K.I.D.S. Church.

January 9, 2011: The church opens a new Family Life Center.

December 2013: Ground is broken and completed on a new sanctuary building to serve the church family.
